Here in Ohio, it's no surprise that some of the most historic places are also the most haunted places. If the walls of some of Ohio's oldest restaurants and inns could talk, the stories would captivate you. The Buxton Inn in Granville is a historic treasure that dates all the way back to the early 1800s. A fully restored inn, tavern and restaurant, it makes a quiet getaway that temporarily takes you back in time.
Welcome to The Buxton Inn, a beautiful inn and restaurant with plenty of history—and plenty of ghosts. Established in 1812, it was one of the grandest hotels once upon a time.
Address: 307 East Broadway, Granville, OH, 43023
Today, it's restored to its full splendor, with some new additions that only add to the charm. Take some time to stroll the gardens and the courtyard while you're here.
On a sunny day, it's hard to believe that this gorgeous inn could be haunted. At select times throughout the year, the inn even hosts ghost tours.
Throughout the years, guests have reported several strange events. In addition to orbs appearing in photos, guests often hear footsteps or coins spilling onto the floor when no one is around.
One of the inn's most popular ghosts is referred to as "The Lady in Blue," who was likely Ethel Houston "Bonnie" Bounell, a former opera star who frequented the inn and loved the color blue.
Be sure to observe the pieces of history preserved here. They tell the story of a bustling inn that was even visited by multiple U.S. presidents in its heyday.
Another popular ghost sighted on the grounds is Major Buxton. He owned the inn from 1865 – 1905.
