Known for its world-class recreation and abundant waterfalls, Cuyahoga Valley National Park's history is as much a part of its identity as anything else.

...but back to the Stanfords. After James established the area, his son George took the proverbial baton and set up his own homestead. He built this beautiful Greek Revival house in 1843 and expanded the family farm to 283 acres by 1853.

Over time, the family had sheep, dairy cattle, orchards, timber, and grain. Besides farming, George and his son ran a lumber business on the property.

Today, the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers overnight accommodations in the stunning Stanford House, which really is home a "homestead" than mere "house." The Stanford has nine bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms and sleeps up to 30 guests!
