Give me a lake and a place to pitch my tent and I’ll be there. There’s something about camping next to water that makes the experience extra soothing and relaxing. If you’re in search of a year-round lakeside camping spot, this one found in the middle of the Uwharrie National Forest is definitely one to check out. Badin Lake Campground, managed by the U.S. Forest Service is one of the best year-round lake campgrounds in North Carolina. Let’s explore this small, intimate campground where tons of adventure await.e.
And when we say small and intimate, that doesn't mean the sites are crammed right next to one another.
The 35 tent and trailer sites you'll find here are neatly carved into the flora of the Uwharrie National Forest, each with its own view. Many of the sites are located right on the lake!
And even better is the campground's position on the eastern shore of Badin Lake — meaning, sunset views abound here!
Be sure to bring plenty of lounge chairs and beverages to go with because shore surfing at dusk will definitely be on the agenda just to get a long look at the beautiful sunsets!
Badin Lake Campground is located in the Piedmont of North Carolina.
For a point of reference to where you might be, it's about an hour northeast of Charlotte and an hour south of Greensboro.
Visitors here find a world a fun water-related activities to get into.
Swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking all top the list of most favorite activities. Bring your kayak or canoe and take a spin on the water!
Of course, in warmer weather it's hard to resist taking a dip. The water in Badin Lake comes in from the Yadkin and Pee Dee Rivers.
These are the rivers that were dammed in 1917 to create Badin Dam, located about two miles in paddling distance from the campground.
Of note, this campground should not be mistaken for a camping "resort."
There are flush toilets and hot showers, but that's it. Camp sites do not have electricity or their own running water. (Running water is available within the campground, though.) All sites also come equipped with fire rings and picnic tables.
Check out this great video of the Badin Lake Campground that was shot by YouTuber Trey Ethridge. It’s truly one of the best lake campgrounds in North Carolina.
