Summer is the perfect time to pitch a tent. You can spend your sunny days on a gorgeous hiking trail and cool off in natural streams, creeks, and waterfalls. There's nothing like getting away from all the creature comforts for a few days and really immersing yourself in the thick of nature. Luckily, in a state like North Carolina, there are plenty of spots to choose from. For this list, we included some past favorites and some new loves.
1. Mount Pisgah Campground
Sitauted among gorgeous mountain views and rolling hills, Mount Pisgah puts you in the middle of the wild. With close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, there's plenty to explore. Bonus: you're only a short hike away from the gorgeous Looking Glass Falls.
2. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park
Located deep in the Smokies in Cherokee, this campground offers the outdoorsy experience but is SO much fun for the little ones. If you're looking for a great, family friendly campground and vacation - this is your destination.
3. Big Creek Campgrond
With only 12 spots available, this is prime real estate when it comes to camping in the Smokies. You're right by amazing waterfalls, hiking, and always surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
4. Badin Lake Campground
Located in Troy, Badin Lake Campground borders the shore and is the perfect place to wake up with both water and mountain views.
5. Cheoah Point
Speaking of lake views, Cheoah Point is located right on the gorgeous Santeetlah Lake. In the midst of the mountains, in Fontana Village, there's no way to NOT leave this campground relaxed and rejuvenated.
6. Ocracoke Campground
To trade in mountain views for sandy shores, you can access Ocracoke Campground by boat. Camping on sand dunes with salty air and salt water sounds like an amazing way to spend a weekend.
7. Frisco Beach
And if you want to take that beach vibe to the next level, Frisco Beach is the perfect place to pitch a tent. Waking up to the sound of the ocean is ALWAYS amazing.
8. Hanging Rock State Park
For those in the Piedmont looking for a mountainous getaway (without the drive to the mountains) Hanging Rock is the perfect place for a weekend of camping. Enjoy gorgeous waterfalls, challenging hiking trails, and rocky outcrops with 360 views.
9. Black Mountain Campground
Located near several prime destinations off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Black Mountain Campground is beautifully beside the South Toe River. Do a little fishing or a little hiking, you'll wake up immersed in nature.
10. Jordan Lake State Recreation Area
Those in the Triangle looking for a quick getaway, the beautiful Jordan Lake is your new oasis. Pitch your tent beside the water and spend your days walking through rugged trails. With so much natural beauty, you'll forget the Capitol City is just a short drive away.
I'm officially ready for a camping trip! How about you? What are some of your favorite camping spots in North Carolina?
