As the weather begins to warm up in New York and spring starts to kick in, it's a great time to start scoping out camping spots to hit during the warmer months. Camping in the Adirondack Mountains is one of the best ways to spend a long weekend upstate, and one of our favorite places to explore is Saranac Lake. There are several great campgrounds in the area, each with their own unique set of recreational options, including fishing, hiking, and kayaking. You can even snag a cabin for the weekend!
Upstate New York camping enthusiasts are likely familiar with some of the prime spots on Saranac Lake, but it remains a hidden gem for many tourists passing through New York.
If you're looking to plan a camping trip later this spring, Saranac Lake is a great place to hang out. Gorgeous hiking trails abound, and there are a few different campgrounds that offer a variety of amenities and activities for your adventure.
One of them is Fish Creek Campground, a campground with 355 sites close to the shoreline, with easy access to Saranac Lake.
Enjoy the beach, a playground, and great trails like Otter Hollow Loop and Floodwood Loop. It's also only 11 miles away from The Wild Center!
If canoeing and kayaking are your outdoor activities of choice, Rollins Pond Campground is worth checking out for your next weekend adventure. There are also 287 campsites with access to hot showers, toilets, firewood sales, and more.
For those looking to take a step up amenities-wise, Cochran's Cabins are a great option. Three miles from Saranac Lake, this collection of cabins sits on 20 acres right on Lake Kiwassa.
Stay at one of 12 cabins and get access to boat rentals, head out on the water, and enjoy this scenic lake for a quintessential Adirondack experience.

It's also worth heading into Saranac Lake for the day, so be sure to check out this charming Adirondack town for at least a few hours while you're in the area. Grab coffee at Blue Moon Cafe in the middle of town, or head south to Lake Flower and drop by Blue Line Brewery Pizza and Pub.
