Committing to a couple nights at a bed and breakfast, no matter how charming, can be tough if you're unsure what the quality of your stay will be. But the comfort and nostalgia of a good bed and breakfast stay is hard to beat, especially in the stunning environs of upstate New York. And when you do find the perfect spot where the luxury matches the coziness, you know you might have something special. In New York's Hudson Valley, Caldwell House is one of those destinations that hits the mark. Located in one of the best small towns in the U.S., you're in for a treat when you visit this NY town!
This gorgeous bed and breakfast in the Hudson Valley has been named one of the best bed and breakfasts in the country.
There are six rooms in the main house, all of which include en-suite bathrooms and wide-pine floors, along with access to the living/game room, front porch and kitchenette.
For those looking for larger and more private accommodations, the Carriage House and Connemara House are more charming than you could imagine. The historic Carriage House was built in the early 1800s and features four luxurious guest suites. The Connemara House has its own four rooms, along with a beautiful bridal party prep room and spa.
When you wake up, be ready to indulge in a delicious three-course homemade breakfast, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
It's also got a prime location in the region; Storm King Art Center and Brotherhood Winery are just a short drive away, and visitors are within an hour of New Paltz, the Culinary Institute and New York City.
A number of parks, trails, and, of course, the Hudson River, allow for a wide variety of outdoor adventures, from ice skating and skiing in the winter to kayaking and apple picking in the summer.
The Caldwell House is also the perfect home base for exploring the 14 wineries along the Shawangunk Hudson Valley Wine Trail, not to mention some fantastic microbreweries like Newburgh Brewing Company and Long Lot Farm Brewing.
While there's no end to the opportunities for exploration in the area, a lowkey afternoon of games in the living room of the house can be just as tempting after an active morning.
You'll find some of the area's prettiest natural landscapes at Schunnemunk Mountain State Park, just southeast of the Caldwell House. Spend an afternoon exploring along Sharon's Bench Trail or Western Ridge Trail for some incredible views! You can also read our article on the Hudson Valley.
