When brisk temperatures arrive in New Mexico, we can't wait to head out for a bit of winter play. Throwing snowballs, tubing down a hill, and heading out for a snowy hike all top our list, but if you're looking for a different take on the usual activities, then you'll want to check out this fun-filled skiing adventure that puts a unique twist on skiing in New Mexico.
Tucked away in the southern Rockies, Angel Fire Resort is hiding one of New Mexico's best-kept secrets: the state's only location for night skiing and snowboarding, with over 50 acres of trails.
As dusk settles at the ski resort in mid-December, the ski resort briefly closes the slopes to prepare for an evening of skiing under the stars.
At 4 p.m., the mountain is closed for one hour to groom the trails and make sure everything is ready for its evening visitors.
At 5 p.m., the fun begins!
For two hours, you'll have a chance to zoom across 50 acres of trails that are well-lit and groomed.
Why opt for an invigorating night of skiing in New Mexico?
Among the benefits of night skiing: the slopes are less crowded and the lift lines are shorter, so it feels like paradise for avid skiers. Plus, there's the beautiful sunset and night sky above!
If you get hungry after all that skiing and snowboarding, Angel Fire Resort has a number of on-site restaurants where you can grab burgers, tacos, or just unwind with a favorite brew.
Angel Fire Resort is located in the northern New Mexico town, Angel Fire.
Night skiing and snowboarding are offered from mid-December through mid-March. For details about dates, pricing, and more, visit the resort's website or Facebook page.
