Looking for a fall weekend getaway in New Mexico? How about a trip to an apple orchard followed by a relaxing stay at a charming mountain-side cottage? Fall is a wonderful time to visit New Mexico with a cornucopia of colors, blazing sunsets, and mountain views dappled with color-changing foliage.
One of our favorite things to do in the fall is to check out local orchards and pumpkin patches to take home some autumn goodies. We’ve found a great little cottage and a fun-filled orchard for you to explore.
Nestled under the Sacramento Mountains -- just a hop, skip, and a jump from La Luz, New Mexico -- you’ll find a small family orchard with a big heart. Since 1882 the Nichols Ranch and Orchards have shared their delicious bounty with the surrounding area.
They are well known for their summertime cherries and their fall bounty of juicy apples, but they will share a few apricots, pears, and sugar plums with you if you ask nicely. If you love honey crisp, gala or golden supreme apples, a weekend getaway to this lovely orchard in the fall should be on your bucket list.
Every year Nichols Ranch and Orchards hosts an apple festival around the first weekend in October. The whole town celebrates the fall harvest with local music, craft beer and wine, and more than 70 arts and crafts vendors. Oh, and maybe an apple or two.
If you plan your visit in the summer, don’t miss the cherry festival hosted by Nichols Ranch and Orchards. Every Father’s Day weekend you’ll be treated to live music, arts and crafts, products and produce from local vendors and farms, and of course lots and lots of beautiful plump cherries.
The Nichols Ranch and Orchards has pumpkins too! Rustle up some Halloween spirit with a pumpkin or two. Then spend an evening roasting the seeds for a tasty treat.
Visit the Nichols Orchard on Facebook for upcoming events and activities.
After a long day at the orchard indulging in apple pie, gourmet caramel apples, and apple samples, bring your haul back to your private mountain-side cottage. Villacolores is a cozy one-bedroom cabin perfect for a romantic weekend getaway.
If you'd like to rent the Villacolores for the weekend or a longer stay, you can find it on VRBO.
Open, airy, and filled with light, this lovely cottage is the perfect retreat to rekindle a little romance or even re-center with a solo getaway in the mountains.
Often rented in the winter as a ski vacation home for up to four people, this charming property will keep you toasty for your fall getaway with a wood-burning stove, an outdoor fire pit, and a gas grill to whip up a special dinner under the stars with a stunning mountain backdrop.
No matter what kind of vacation you have in mind, a fall weekend getaway in New Mexico is a wonderful way to gift yourself and your loved ones with memories that will last forever.
