Accommodations across New Hampshire come in all shapes and sizes. They range from your traditional hotels and bed & breakfasts to mountainside yurts. I don't know about you, but I typically like to go for the non-traditional spots. You'll find these by looking at lesser-known locations where you might have to go without some of the creature comforts of home. Such a place lies in the form of an old bus in the town of Chatham near the Maine border.
Relive your school or camp days by staying in this converted bus in Chatham. It's located on Toad Hill, a remote 45-acre property surrounded by forest.
Toad Hill offers lots to do right from the bus. Hiking, biking, snowmobiling, and ski trails are all accessible from the property. There's even a summer music festival!
Inside the bus, you'll find a wood-burning stove, a full-size bed, and a partial kitchen with an eating area. Vintage furniture adorns the inside of this vintage vehicle.
The wood stove provides heat in the cooler seasons, but winter guests should pack and prepare for changeable conditions.
The bus lies in a field that provides beautiful views of the area's mountains. There's also an outside fire pit where you can relax and soak in the scenery.
There is no running water in the bus, so guests should plan on bringing all of the water they will need throughout their stay. It may sound like a hassle, but it's easier than you think and adds to the charm of this unique spot.
The hosts graciously ask all guests to practice "leave no trace" ethics and leave the bus in the same (or better!) condition for those who stay after you.
This is probably one of the most unique New Hampshire getaways that you can find in the state. To learn more and to book your stay, visit the listing on Airbnb.
Other fun destinations for an overnight stay or more include a treehouse in Sanbornton, a former castle in Rindge, and a caboose in Lincoln.
