For some folks, the thought of camping might not be appealing due to uncertain weather, bugs, and dirt. But what if camping didn't involve dealing with a tent and included some of the comforts of home? Milan State Park in northern New Hampshire provides a camping option with a little more style.
As of this writing, the park has four yurts available for reservation. Even in the off-season, it isn't too early to start making your plans to book one as they can fill up quickly.
The yurts provide a bit more comfort for campers looking to upgrade from a tent, while still providing the experience of being out in the woods. Plus, no set up and take down!
The yurt's interiors are spacious and have enough room for up to six people. Each is equipped with bunk beds and furniture.
The centerpiece is the Milan Hill fire tower. This 45-foot lookout tower first went into service in 1932 and remains one of the state's 15 active fire lookouts.
A climb up the tower reveals expansive views of the White Mountains and the wild area of northern New Hampshire known as the Great North Woods.
Winter at Milan Hill State Park affords opportunities to ski on over nine miles of groomed nordic trails, maintained by The Nansen Ski Club, the oldest ski club in the country.
For more information on the park and to reserve your stay at one of their yurts, visit the Milan Hill State Park website.
Got a yen for yurts? Here are eight yurt getaways around the state, stay at a mountainside yurt, or escape from it all at an off-the-grid yurt.
