When you live in a state that's filled with old mining towns, you quickly become accustomed to all of the ghost stories that tend to float around them. Virginia City is a town in Nevada that's loaded with history, including original structures from the Comstock's glory days. One of these structures is the 144-year-old Silver Queen Hotel, and it definitely has its fair share of ghost stories. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the hotel's haunted reputation definitely makes for an interesting, if not slightly creepy, overnight stay.
The Silver Queen Hotel in Virginia City is like a living time capsule of the town's early days. Originally opened in 1876, the hotel is filled with historic charm. However, it describes itself as a "ghost hunter's delight" for a reason!
There have been numerous accounts of paranormal activity at the Silver Queen Hotel by staff and guests alike. These creepy accounts involve everything from moving doorknobs and tapping on walls to loud bangs and the sounds of footsteps.
The hotel consists of 28 rooms but Room 11 and Room 13 are considered to be especially active with ghostly activity. If it's a paranormal encounter you're after, staying in one of these rooms is probably your best bet.
As legend has it, Room 11 is where a wronged woman allegedly killed herself in the bathtub. The woman, known as Rosie, now wanders throughout the hotel attempting to frighten guests. She reportedly only visits men—sorry, ladies.
Another frequently spotted ghost is Annie. Some say she is the source of footsteps, disembodied voices, and the tapping sounds that regularly occur in the hotel. Of course, there's no proof that either Annie or Rosie ever actually existed, but there's undoubtedly something strange going bump in the night here!
Some guests have seen full-on apparitions of individuals dressed like their straight out of the Gold Rush. Countless paranormal investigations have taken place at the Silver Queen in an attempt to contact these lingering spirits. The television show "Ghost Adventures" even filmed here...twice.
If you don't believe in ghosts, just wait; a stay at the Silver Queen might just change your mind. Learn more about this historic hotel on their website and plan a ghost hunt soon!
