Camping season is far from over here in Nevada so if you're on the hunt for your next adventure then look no further. Hiding in the depths of beautiful Lamoille Canyon is a campground that resembles a little slice of paradise. Boasting creeks, waterfalls, hiking trails, and endless natural beauty, this canyon campground is absolute bliss. It's definitely one that needs to be on your bucket list so take note!
Thomas Canyon Campground is the main campground that can be found within the natural wonder known as Lamoille Canyon. Located on the north side of the Ruby Mountains, this is a region that is full of adventure and it should definitely be on your radar.
The canyon campground contains 39 campsites. Each site is comprised of a tent space, picnic table, and a fire pit. Most campers also note just how private the campground is, despite the fact that it's the most popular site in Lamoille Canyon.
Aspen and cottonwood trees provide plenty of shade in the campground making this a lovely destination to set up camp even on the hottest of days. And the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain peaks certainly don't hurt!
One of the best features of the campground is the fact that Lamoille Creek runs right through it. This makes it an ideal location for fishermen since rainbow and brook trout are abundant in the creek.
The campground provides easy access to three scenic loop trails and you'll want to explore them all. Thomas Canyon Trail is one of the most popular hikes, taking you past several waterfalls and ultimately leading you to an alpine lake.
Lamoille Canyon is easily one of Nevada's greatest wonders. The region is brimming with jagged peaks, lush meadows, abundant wildlife, rushing streams, and sparkling lakes. You could easily spend days on end attempting to see it all, but of course it would be impossible to explore every inch of this place!
Rates for the campground are very reasonable, especially considering the beautiful location. It's $18 for a single site and that includes your vehicle fee. That's definitely not a bad price to pay for a view like this.
There are several months of camping season left so be sure to put Thomas Canyon Campground on your list. For more information about making a reservation, visit the USDA Forest Service website here.
