With Halloween just around the corner, those of us who enjoy a good scare are looking for fun ways to inspire a little good-natured creepy feeling. The Museum of Shadows at 502 Main Street in Plattsmouth offers overnight ghost hunting trips that will scare you in the most delightful way possible.
The Museum of Shadows has been around for about a year, and in that short time it has built up a solid reputation as one of the most haunted museums in the world. Although it was originally located in Elmwood, the museum recently moved to Plattsmouth.
The main attraction is the haunted, possessed, and just plain creepy items on display. The objects are prone to moving, jumping, falling, or otherwise showing unexplained signs of life all on their own. You can even watch a 24/7 live feed of the museum to catch these paranormal events as they happen.
But if you really want the spooky experience of a lifetime, be sure to attend one of the overnight ghost tours. You'll arrive at 7pm and learn a little about the building and its objects. Then your guides will lead you on a ghost-hunting tour that takes you to the basement of this building that dates back to the 1880s.
Participants in past ghost hunting treks have reported feeling cold spots, feeling light touches on their shoulders, seeing faces, hearing disembodied voices or mysterious footsteps, and a whole list of other creepy occurrences. Ghost hunting equipment sometimes fails on the hunts, and the batteries of electronics are inexplicably and quickly drained.
The overnight tours are $135/person and go until 7am the following morning. Only a limited number of tickets are sold for each tour to give everyone the chance to see and hear the phenomena clearly.
By all accounts, this is a truly spooky, memorable event. Even skeptics have been known to walk away believing in spirits after spending a night with them in the museum.
Are you brave enough to take this creepy overnight tour? Find the schedule and links to buy tickets here. There are also shorter tours for people who prefer not to spend the entire night hunting ghosts. If you can't make it to the museum, be sure to watch the live stream here.
