In the picturesque countryside just outside of Minden, Burchell's White Hill Farmhouse Inn is a welcome respite from the fast-paced outside world. You don't have to stay in one of the guest rooms to enjoy the beautiful setting; there is a restaurant on site that offers the kind of home cooking you've been dreaming about. It's a hidden gem that deserves to be more widely known.
This working farm has been in the same family for more than 100 years and was recently honored as a Nebraska Pioneer Farm. The inn features four beautiful guest rooms, each with a private bath.
But when you don't have time for a weekend getaway, stop out on a Friday or Saturday night for dinner in the restaurant.
Every table is treated to a basket full of delicious rolls made by the inn's co-owner and chef, Bob Ard. You could make a whole meal out of these - they're that good.
But you should probably save some room for all of the other delicious treats on offer. Meals vary by week, but you could be treated to smoked chicken, slow roasted brisket, baked potatoes, fresh sweet corn, and of course a variety of delectable desserts. Everything is prepared on site from scratch, and you can taste the love and care that goes into every meal.
Meals are served family-style here, meaning that everything is brought out in bowls and on platters to be passed around and shared. It's a great way to enjoy the company of the people you're with. After your meal, make time for a quick walk around the grounds to admire the gorgeous scenery.
The farm is beautiful all year, but it takes on a special kind of glow in the fall. The leaves bloom into bright colors and are reflected in the farm's pond, turning this into one of the most picturesque places you'll visit this fall.
The restaurant can also accommodate your special event with seating for up to 150 people. Imagine having a family reunion in this beautiful place!
The restaurant at Burchell's White Hill Farmhouse Inn is generally open for dinner Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Call 308-832-1323 to make reservations. They can also open the restaurant at other times for special events. Get more information at their website or Facebook page.
