Camping is a common pastime here in Montana. In a state full of nature lovers, you'll find plenty of locals with camping gear in their garages who are ready to enjoy sleeping in the great outdoors as soon as the weather allows.
However, as the concept of "glamping" is becoming more popular in the Treasure State, you'll find more and more luxury tents, cabins, and other unique "shelters" popping up. And while there's nothing wrong with being spoiled even while you camp, there is a healthy compromise: yurt camping. You'll get to enjoy the benefits of camping while still being sheltered from the elements. These four spots have some of the best yurt options in the state.
1. Mooseshroom Yurt Retreat and Campground, Columbia Falls
The Mooseshroom Yurt is located just a few miles from the west entrance of Glacier National Park. The campground, including the yurt, is for adults only, so the environment is different than most local campgrounds. The yurt has five beds, can host six guests, and has electricity, running water, and a small kitchenette with all the cooking basics you'll need.
2. Big Arm / Flathead Lake State Park
There are three camping yurts at Big Arm, which is located on the southwest shores of Flathead Lake and offers stunning views of the Mission Mountains. These yurts are a bit more rustic, but you'll still have soft beds, a futon, electric heat, and easy access to showers and fresh water.
3. North American RV Park & Yurt Village, Coram
This RV park and yurt village is located near the entrance to Glacier National Park, so it's a perfect summer destination. The yurts feature a bunk bed with a double on the bottom, so they can host three people comfortably. While they also have electricity, a table and chairs, and a heater, you'll have to bring your own bedding when you stay.
4. Luxury Yurt on a Flathead Lake Farm, Somers
Admittedly, this yurt is not on an actual campground—it's on a farm. But if you want a true glamping experience, you can have that here without breaking the bank. This large two-bedroom yurt sits on the northern end of Flathead Lake, and it has a full kitchen, a full bathroom, and even a washer and dryer. Cozying up in one of the two queen beds at the end of your evening will definitely make a glamping fan out of you.
