Camping season can start early in Montana if you have the right equipment (and don't mind cold mornings and bundling up at night). But the Treasure State's campgrounds tend to fill up fast, especially if you're hoping to hit a major tourist destination (we're looking at you, Glacier).
Seeley Lake is a tourist destination, but it's more of a local hot spot than an out-of-stater's dream spot. And if you drive south from Seeley Lake for about 15 minutes, you'll spot the signs for Placid Lake State Park. Here's why this waterfront campground in Montana is the perfect place to unwind.
Placid Lake State Park sits on a tributary of the Clearwater River.
It's best known for its smooth waters, family fun, water sports, fishing, and camping.
The park's campground hosts campers from the beginning of May until mid-November, so you can get an early start here.
Of course, if you have a tent, you might want to hold off until the weather warms up substantially.
Reserve the right spot and you can camp with a gorgeous lake view.
We imagine both the sunrises and sunsets here are absolutely magical.
The campground has 40 campsites, including 17 with electricity, plus a hike-bike camping site that can accommodate nine tents.
The hike-bike site is equipped with bicycle racks, fire rings, bear resistant food lockers, potable water, a bicycle maintenance stand, and a covered shelter with picnic table and electrical outlets. In short, you'll never be bored here.
Placid Lake State Park is a great place to park an RV or a trailer.
Just make sure you can easily fit in your designated spot.
The park has plenty of amenities to make your stay more comfortable.
From picnic areas and swimming spots to restrooms and showers, your camping experience will be nice and comfortable.
If you enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, or just sitting by the lake and watching the sunset, you'll love it here.
Mark your calendar for early May and reserve a spot as soon as possible. As you can imagine, this little piece of paradise is popular among those who are in the know.
