There is on shortage of places to go camping in Montana, that’s for sure. Most Montanans love to be out under the stars, and that’s why our biggest state parks are often packed with overnight guests during the summer. If you’re looking for a nice, relaxing relaxing experience, try one of these 10 spots.
1. Kirkwood Resort & Marina, West Yellowstone
Kirkwood has something for all kinds of campers—you can bring your RV, stay in a cozy cabin, or rent a teepee. It’s located just 18 miles from the west entrance to Yellowstone Park, this campground sits on beautiful Hebgen Lake.
2. The Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness

3. Spruce Park on the River, Kalispell
You can camp right on the banks of the Flathead River at this scenic space, and you’ll be only 30 minutes away from Glacier National Park.
4. North Van Houten Campground, Wisdom
This public campground has five sites available, so you won’t have many neighbors if you stay here. It’s also surrounded by the lodgepole pine of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
5. St. Mary Campground
Have you ever wanted the experience of camping in a resort-like setting? St. Mary offers the perfect compromise with tent, RV, and cabin camping areas as well as amenities like a hot tub.
6. Sage Creek Campground
Located in the Custer National Forest near the Wyoming border, this is a secluded, pet-friendly place meant to help you get away from it all.
7. Goose Bay Marina and Campground, near Townsend
This newly renovated campground is nestled along the eastern shore of the Canyon Ferry Reservoir. You can reserve a spot with a lake view, but you can also enjoy some secluded dispersed camping.
8. Strawberry Hill Recreation Area, Miles City
Primitive camping is permitted at Strawberry Hill Recreation Area. So if you’d like to get away from it all, spend the night surrounded by ponderosa pine.

9. Cabinet Gorge Campground, Noxon
You’ll find this tranquil campground tucked away in Northwest Montana. It offers plenty of tent sites, RV hookups, and nearby boating and fishing.
10. Ovando
There are a lot of beautiful and secluded camping spots in the Ovando area. The Henry Morgan campground offers fishing and gorgeous scenery, and the Clearwater River has plenty of perfect places to pitch a tent.
