Traveling the rails has always had romance associated with it, especially in books and in films. Maybe it’s the idea of stowing away on a boxcar, watching as the landscape passes by under the glow of the moonlight. Or perhaps it’s just that sense of freedom that comes from seeing nothing but land passing by. The Katy Boxcar in Missouri doesn’t meander along the rails, but it offers a cozy place to spend a night or two. If you close your eyes, you might even feel like you’re riding the rails.
The Katy Trail B&B, in Rocheport, offers some pretty amazing places to sleep at night – from the bright and airy Attic Suite to the rustic and charming Katy Boxcar.
Whether you’re making your way along the 240-mile Katy Trail or you’re just on the lookout for a unique place to stay, chances are you’ll love the Katy Boxcar.
The converted boxcar may look small from the outside, but it’s actually quite spacious with a queen-sized bed, a loft with two queen-sized mattresses, and a pullout couch. Up to seven guests can comfortably stay in the boxcar.
An abundance of natural light streams in from the glass front door, and you’ll find all of the comforts of home in the boxcar, including a full bathroom with a shower and a tub.
When you’re ready to sit down to a meal, just use the pullout table. You can also sit outside at the picnic table or on the chairs that surround a grill.
Guests are welcome to relax in the spacious yard. Even if you didn’t bring any kids along, go for a ride on the tire swing – for old time’s sake – before chilling out in the hammock.
Since the Katy Boxcar is part of the bed and breakfast, you’ll receive a complimentary continental breakfast. You can also make meals in the main house’s kitchen.
