The large yellow house that sits proudly on Main St. in Caledonia has an amazing past. Twelve Mile Creek Emporium, Wine Cottage, and B&B was once know by locals as the Ramsey House and is now a National Historic Landmark.
During the Civil War the inn became a hospital for both Union and Confederate solders. However, the most interesting history sits below the house. The tunnels that connected the large home to two small adjacent dwellings also helped former slaves escape on the Underground Railroad.
Today, one of the most popular rooms at Twelve Mile Creek is the former quarantine room. This lovely room originally was not quite as comfortable.
While the inn operated as a hospital, the room on the third floor became the quarantine room for solders who had communicable diseases. The metal door was installed with a window to pass food and water though. The door remains a part of the room to this day.
In addition to providing lodging, Twelve Mile Creek serves great food. They have weekend specials, but feature soups, salads, and sandwiches on their fixed menu.
After a bite to eat, check out their collection of home decor, western ware, children's clothing, and more. They get new items in all the time!
Relax out on their patio with a class of local craft beer or wine. On most warm weekends you can also catch a band out back too!
Spend the day or the weekend at Twelve Mile Creek and enjoy everything this historic inn has to offer.
