Missouri tells plenty of haunted tales, stories of the paranormal that will send shivers down our spines. Stories, however, are a whole lot different than experiencing the paranormal for ourselves. How brave are you? Brave enough to stay at the notoriously haunted Walnut Street Inn in Missouri, where you might just come face-to-face with a real life ghost?
An enchanting inn that promises plenty of peace and quiet, The Walnut Street Inn in Springfield welcomes weary travelers, but its original homeowner still hangs around her former home.
The picturesque bed and breakfast dates back to 1894, when Charles and Katherine McGann built the charming three-story home, where they lived until their final breath.
After their deaths, the McGanns’ beloved home changed owners over the years. Tales of hauntings didn’t begin to trickle out from the home until 1987 when the home became the now popular Walnut Street Inn.
Some small signs – noises when no one is around and doors that close on their own – hint that a spirit still remains in the former Springfield home.
Many believe that spirit is Katherine McGann, and some have even seen her in the Rosen Room. One guest revealed that she awoke to see a woman, wearing a Victorian-era dress, pull the blanket down from the bed and sit next to her.
Several guests tell of seeing the apparition, who tells them to “get out of my room.” If the guest moves toward the woman, the woman simply vanishes. Other guests have seen the woman in the mirror only to turn around and find themselves alone in the room.
That begs the question. Will you come face-to-face with Katherine or another spirit at the Walnut Street Inn?
