Do you love the paranormal? Is your ideal evening spent curled up on the couch watching horror movies? Do you really, truly, believe in ghosts? Well, we've got a bit of a challenge for you, then. These haunted hotels in Missouri are some of the spookiest places to stay in the Midwest. While none of them are exactly what we would call a nightmare, these creepy, ghostly spots in Missouri are not for the skittish. Every one of these hotels or bed and breakfasts is known for being the site of some strange and eerie hauntings.
1. Walnut Street Inn, Springfield
The Main House of this three-building Inn is said to be the most haunted, but the whole property will give you the heebie-jeebies. In particular, the Rosen Room is said to be haunted by an elderly woman who reportedly carried on an entire conversation with one lucky (or unlucky!) guest. She has also been seen walking the halls during the evenings, but by all accounts, this spirit is believed to be a friendly ghost. The historic building, built in 1894, has had numerous other reports through the years. You'll have to spend the night in this haunted Missouri hotel to see for yourself!
2. Hotel Bothwell, Sedalia
This beautiful and ornate 1927 Jazz-era hotel in Missouri is located at 103 E. 4th Street, and it is the site of many reported hauntings. Ghost sightings, voices, and objects going missing are just some of the tales you'll hear if you ask locals and visitors about their experiences behind these walls. A former employee of the hotel reported scratches on the back of his neck coming from nowhere - and they were simply appearing out of the blue. There have also been doors opening and closing on their own, and a crank elevator working on it its own. Maybe someone will get lucky, and David Pumpkins will show up in the haunted elevator just in time for Halloween! The third floor in particular is said to be the most haunted. Talk about a spooky place for a Missouri getaway!

3. The Elms Hotel, Excelsior Springs
If you're looking for a historic spot to rest your head in Missouri, it's hard to top the Elms Hotel. Harry S. Truman spent election night here in 1948! This 1912 hotel, located at 401 Regent Street, once had a basement where the lap pool now stands. All these years later, many guests still love to stay at this historic Missouri hotel. There have been plenty of ghost sightings down in the lap pool area, including the ghost of a man from speakeasy days who had been killed by the mob there and a frantic woman looking for her child - she has been known to pull guests' hair or throw things across the room. The employees of the Elms Hotel seem to be supervised by spirits as well -- the ghost of a young woman in a maid outfit appears to make sure the work is done right. These stories are among the tales that surround this hotel, making it one of the most haunted places in Missouri.

4. Hotel Savoy, Kansas City (also known as 21c Kansas City)
For "haunted hotels near me" in Kansas City, be sure to check this one out. This building was built in 1888, and it's located at 219 W. 9th Street. Hotel Savoy has a long history of supernatural occurrences. Room 505 was the location of the suspicious death of a woman named Betsy Ward, and reports of voices, shadows, doors opening and closing have all been reported in or near that room. On the second floor, in 1990, the restaurant manager was stabbed to death by his dishwashers, and there have been reports of the feeling of being watched in that area. This is truly a dark and twisted haunted hotel in Missouri! There have also been EVPs and pictures showing orbs and figures including a little girl in Victorian clothing being spotted on the 4th floor. Hotel Savoy was renamed 21c Kansas City, but the history remains.

5. Holiday Inn, Six Flags, Eureka/Pacific
This hotel was built around a 19th century barn with wooden beams, limestone walls and unique brick work. Though it is now a Holiday Inn near Six Flags, it still retains much of its historic charm... and a few other relics from the past. This area is said to be haunted by a little girl named Aggie, who fell to hear death from the barn window. You might find her running through the halls or peeking at you from around a corner. Another strange happening occurred when two women reported finding a dead man in a tub, only to find absolutely nothing there when they returned with staff. Was she imagingin things, or was it paranormal activity? Only one way to find out - book a stay here and see for yourself. This is among the spookiest of the Missouri haunted hotels.
6. Drury Inn & Suites, Creve Coeur
The fifth floor in particular has been the setting of multiple hauntings. Located at 780 Emerson Road, supernatural reports have included elevator dings, footsteps and voices, and most creepy, figures walking toward you in the halls that disappear as you get closer to them.
What are some other hotels in Missouri that might be haunted? Lemp Mansion, and the beautiful Vaile Victorian Mansion, were a few mentioned in previous posts, but with all the historic areas around the state, there are sure to be many more. Some may still be operating as hotels and some may have ghost tours available, so you can determine how brave you are and simply visit for a tour or stay the weekend. You may just get more than you bargained for!
