We Mississippians know how amazing our home state is. However, it looks like outsiders are starting to catch on, too. Just recently, Travel and Leisure released a list of the top woman-owned hotels around the globe, and Mississippi’s very own Peter Hunter House was included! Take a look:
As the Bed and Breakfast Capital of the South, Natchez is home to dozens of B&Bs, including the Peter Hunter House Bed and Breakfast.
According to Travel and Leisure, it’s one of the 11 best woman-owned hotels in the entire world!
Part of the B&B’s allure is its historic significance. It’s one of the few examples of Gothic Revival residential architecture that was constructed prior to the Civil War.
It was built in 1849 for just $655.22! The home’s namesake, Peter Hunter, purchased the home several years later in 1858.
Today, the home offers visitors a unique peek into the past, as it’s been barely altered since its construction.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the B&B is lacking in the amenities department.
Guests will find all the comforts of home, plus a few extras, like hot, homemade breakfasts, which are delivered to guests’ rooms each morning.
And it’s those “extras” that caught the attention of Travel and Leisure, which revered the Peter Hunter House for its ability to make guests feel at home.
The “little touches” are what guests love about the B&B, too. According to owner Hydie Wahlborg, “it’s what guests seem to comment about most.”
Between the welcoming ambiance and comfy accommodations, the Peter Hunter House is a true home away from home!
