Minnesotans are lucky to have access to all manner of hotels, motels, resorts, and campsites. Whether you love luxury or you prefer something a little quirky, there's a place to stay somewhere in the Land of 10,000 Lakes that will fit your needs. In Granite Falls, Minnesota, a little known state park offers a beautiful place to stay for anyone looking for unique lodging. Check it out:
Upper Sioux Agency State Park is a beautiful and historically rich park in Granite Falls, Minnesota. You'll find it at 5908 MN-67, Granite Falls, MN 56241.
The park is made up of more than 1,200 acres of beautiful land between the Minnesota and Yellow Medicine Rivers.
The park was founded in the 1960s to preserve ruins of the Upper Sioux Agency, which was destroyed during the Dakota War of 1862.
There are 18 miles of beautiful hiking trails throughout the park, including some that cross old battlefields from the war.
Wherever you go, you'll have a chance to see some of Minnesota's native plant and animal species.
In between your explorations, you may want to set up a campsite. The park has regular campsites, or you can choose something a little different.
The park has three tipis available for guests to stay in. They are an affordable $30 per night.
If you think the outside of the tipi is impressive, wait until you step inside. It's unlike any tent you've ever slept in — and probably a lot more comfortable. Each one can sleep six people.
Each tipi has a fire pit outside. And if you need more space, there are larger picnic areas in the park that also have picnic tables.
We recommend checking out the park — and the tipi campsites — in the summer and fall when the rolling landscape is at its prettiest.
