Sometimes, fairytales do come true - and that's certainly the case in Lee, Massachusetts, at the historic and whimsical Santarella Estate. The sprawling property, which features three different structures straight out of Rumpelstiltskin, provides a charming backdrop for getaways and weddings alike.
The origins of the home date back to the founding of the town, then called Tyringham. The community was established in 1739, and the colonial home on the property was built shortly afterwards. Over time, residents would alter and add to the magical setting to achieve what we see today.
The most notable of those residents was Sir Henry Hudson Kitson, an English sculptor known for his depictions of the Lexington Minutemen and the Plymouth Rock Maiden. He developed the property as his studio space, and it evolved into an artwork of its own.
Of the three buildings on the property, this tiny tower is ideally suited for a romantic getaway or an artistic respite.
The interior features a dining and sitting area, a mini fridge on the ground floor (no full kitchen, keep in mind) and a full bathroom. The upper floor features a dreamy bedroom.
Every detail brings new charm to the experience of staying here, from the large windows to the old-fashioned shutters that open out into the natural landscape.
The estate alone has lots to explore, with many grounds and trails around the property begging to be explored.
If you'd rather go out, Santarella is just a seven minute drive from downtown Lee, one of the central towns of the Berkshires that boasts shops, restaurants and performance venues.
If you're ever dreamed of living in a story book, even just for a night, now's your chance. A stay in this dreamy tower can be booked on Airbnb for $262 per night, but you'll have to bring your own princess dress.
