Whether you grew up daydreaming of princes and dragons, or just love the idea of escaping to a beautiful cottage in the woods, Santarella in Tyringham is an enchanting and totally unique Massachusetts destination.
This enchanting collection of colonial structures and cottage has been growing since Tryringham was settled in 1739. Santarella was once the estate of Sir Henry Hudson Kitson, an actual knight who used built his incredible sculpting studio on the site and transformed the land with the addition of exotic gardens and whimsical buildings.
The magic of this place is hard to put into words, so it's fortunate that you can spend the night at this incredible retreat in the forest.
A visit to Santarella is like stepping into a real-life fairytale.
Santarella features over two acres of private woods and meadows, though the real spell is cast when you walk into the enchanting accommodations.
The most coveted corner of the estate is definitely the Silo Cottage.
This charming, two-story abode features a beautiful spiral staircase, weathered wooden beams and panels, and a cozy dining nook.
However, the best part is probably what you’ll find at the top of the stairs.
Spend your evenings in a gorgeous, canopied bed that feels ripped straight from the pages of a storybook.
The downstairs windows overlook the lovely lily pond, and if you leave the windows open you might even hear the babble of the nearby brook.
There’s an outdoor fireplace for keeping cozy during those crisp fall nights.
Don’t forget to take a dip in the secluded swimming pond, located about two miles from the cottage.
If you want to explore a bit, the grounds are just as enchanting as the cottage.
Wander around the estate's private garden paths.
There are also smaller, but just as magical, accommodations if you don't feel like springing for the giant silo tower.
Santarella is also an amazing place to host an event or wedding.
But I don't blame you if you want to keep this place all to yourself.
A stay in the Silo cottage will run you about $225 a night. Book your magical escape here. If you're looking for more fairytale spots in Massachusetts, check out these 13 enchanting places across the state.
