Previously, we discussed Point Lookout State Park, particularly the haunted lighthouse. Around 3,000 people died on the grounds when this spot was a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War. Today, eerie tales swirl about this historic place not only from inside the lighthouse but also from visitors, including campers. Have you ever experienced haunted overnight camping? Well, here's your chance! Read on to see if you could brave a stay at this allegedly haunted campground in Maryland.
The park features 143 wooded campsites and six cabins. It's quite picturesque during the day with picnic areas and water views. It may be considered one of the most unique campgrounds in Maryland.
During the night, campers have reported unusual happenings. A group of teenagers who were exploring the grounds with a flashlight spotted a man dressed in Civil War-era garb holding a bayonet. He paced back and forth inside of the lighthouse fence as if guarding it.
A young woman who was enjoying the beach during sunset before heading back to her tent, observed a ghostly figure walk into the water and disappear.
Perhaps the most chilling of all, a camper who was sitting around a fire circle reported hearing voices around his campsite. A moment later, a cold gust ran through his chest, rendering him speechless. That's certainly not something everyone experiences while camping in Maryland!
Most often, people claim to hear footsteps and strange sounds in the middle of the night, which would most likely be attributed to wild animals. However, upon waking, boot prints can be found right outside their tent.
Is it simply that because of its secluded location, Point Lookout State Park is prone to eerie sounds from the wind, water, and stillness? Or is it something more? Why don't you spend the night and find out...if you dare!
