So, you love the landscape of Maine and want to go camping. The only problem is that you've never been camping and don't like sleeping outdoors and, really, would probably just prefer a hotel. Don't fret! You can still take advantage of the natural wonderland that is Maine without having to wake up on the ground. Introducing: Glamping!
As the name suggests, glamping is a more glamorous form of camping. You'll be close to nature, but you'll rest your head on an actual pillow and may even be able to make your coffee inside. Take a look at these glamping options in Maine if this sounds like something for you!
1. Crooked River Tiny House, Waterford
This is a personal favorite of mine, having stayed here for one incredible weekend. The man behind this glamping site scouted the land and built the entire thing himself. The love shows through in every detail, including the log book he kept during the process. The tiny house does not have electricity, but you'll be in the lap of luxury nonetheless. Summers are generally breezy, hot, and the windows have screens to keep the bugs out. There's great winter sledding and exceptional summer river floating when the water is running high in the Crooked River. A 20-minute walk will bring you to a stretch of the river that will have you spending just over an hour drifting on back to the house. The river itself is great for fly fishing and exploration, and is full of small swimming holes to skinny dip or bathe, pending guests’ seasonal timing and their ability to withstand the sheer clean and cold refreshment that is the Crooked River.
