Summer is coming to an end, although it may not feel like it. Before it comes to a close, you have to spend a relaxing weekend at this amazing state park that's just a short drive from the city. Let's take a look.
Located just a short drive across the Causeway in Mandeville, Fontainebleau State Park is a beautifully serene park that you’re sure to love.
The 2,800 acre park is nestled up on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, offering tons of amenities that kids and adults of all ages will love.
A picture-perfect setting, Fontainebleau State Park is just the ticket for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature for a few days.
From sandy beaches to marsh trails, there's something for everyone here.
The trails are quite popular for nature lovers.
Keep an eye out for birds and other wildlife, over 400 different species live around the park.
One of the most unique parts of the park is the old sugar mill.
Built in 1829 by Bernard de Marigny de Mandeville (the founder of Mandeville), the area was used as a sugar plantation up until 1852. The crumbling ruins can be seen from the main road in, you can’t miss it.
There’s also a little stretch of beach you can sink your toes into.
Gotta get those beach days in while you still can!
And the waterfront cabins are perfect for a weekend getaway.
Right on Lake Pontchartrain, these cabins are absolutely delightful. You can fish right from your porch, or jump in your kayak or boat and explore the lake on your own.
And the sunsets? Mesmerizing.
Imagine a relaxing evening on the porch with your friends and family watching a sunset as beautiful as this. Sign me up!
