It's no secret that camping can be a lot of work and it's not always for everyone. However, hopefully everyone appreciates the natural beauty we have here in Kentucky and would like to experience it, even if perhaps in a more glamorous accommodation than a regular tent. "Glamping" is a newer trend in the outdoor world that allows those who don't enjoy the rigors of tent camping to still get out and spend time outdoors. In Campbell County, A.J. Jolly Park recently added a glamping experience to its campground in the form of a yurt. This unique overnight adventure gives you more comforts than more primitive camping and it may just the be the perfect summer escape.
A.J. Jolly Park and Campground is located in Alexandria in Campbell County and is one of the largest county parks in the state.
The park hosts a number of events throughout the year and is known for its lovely lakefront campground, fishing, and water activities.
This year, the park added something new to its offerings with the addition of a charming yurt.
This circular cabin-like structure takes primitive camping up a notch and allows you some comforts of home, without having to own or rent a camper. If tent camping seems like too much work, then this more glamorous option may be right up your alley.
Inside the yurt, you'll find a few features you definitely wouldn't find in a tent, and all you need to bring is bedding and the expectation of good times ahead.
The round, 16-foot interior has two pull-out futons for sleeping, a microwave, small refrigerator, and a coffee maker.
You'll also find plenty of board games and enough space for your family to be able to rest and relax after your adventures in the park. The rates are extremely reasonable and can be found on the park's website (linked below).
The 1,000-acre park also offers more traditional tent and RV sites, if you're just looking for a new campground to try. Many of the sites are lakefront, allowing for beautiful water views.
Imagine coming back to your yurt or campsite and witnessing sunset views like this one!
A.J. Jolly beautifully shows off Kentucky's natural wonders and it's a great place to get out and enjoy the outdoors as a family.
The large lake is the main feature of the park and they are adding more and more ways to experience it each year.
Fishing is, of course, a popular activity, and you can also now rent an array of boats from canoes and kayaks to the new paddleboards, shown above.
If that's not enough outdoor fun for you, there is also an 18-hole golf course along the lake and plenty of space to walk around and explore. There are events and festivals throughout the year, as well.
When you're ready to experience this wonderful Kentucky park, it won't take you long to pack and prepare if you choose to "glamp" instead of camp in A.J. Jolly's brand new yurt.
