With steep cliffs and wooded coves along the shoreline, eastern Kentucky's Paintsville Lake provides 1,140 acres of premier water recreation, including boating, fishing, and jet skiing.
This Kentucky State Park is also celebrated for its superlative camping, which, in addition to 32 developed sites and 10 primitive spots, is open year-round.
While many might shiver at the mere idea of camping during the winter in Kentucky, the sublime beauty of Paintsville Lake State Park in the colder months might make you change your mind.
For starters, the winter hiking here is outstanding, with the Dawkins Trail and Kiwanis Trail offering accessible options suitable for beginners and families. The scenery of eastern Kentucky, which is mountainous and rural, is something to marvel at all year round!
