Lake Ahquabi State Park is one of Iowa's most beloved spots - offering picturesque lake views, peaceful trails, and countless amenities perfect for a relaxing day out in nature. During the summer, it was a very popular spot for families to go camping thanks to its affordable cabins and many convenient spots - at least it was, until 2021. That's when Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground shut its doors for an extensive renovation. But as of summer 2023, the wait is over - you can go camping at Lake Ahquabi once again! The campground had its grand reopening on July 20th, and campers can now enjoy the upgraded facilities and make same-day reservations. While not all of the campground is open, as renovations continue, it's time to head back to Lake Ahquabi!
Lake Ahquabi State Park is a top summer destination for explorers, and it's getting ready to reopen in full!
The shoreline along the beautiful lake has been given extensive work to create a safer, more attractive beach experience.
During renovation, those who wanted to explore the park had to make it a day trip or find a hotel in Indianola.
Not anymore! While the beach area is still under construction, the park's campgrounds can be booked once again.
The new campground will have 94 campsites with full electrical hookup at 52 of them, plus full ADA accessibility.
Lake Ahquabi is a popular fishing destination, as well - known for its large fishing shack!
Outdoors enthusiasts, hikers, swimmers, and campers are all looking forward to seeing this park return in its full glory, better than ever!
Have you gone camping at Lake Ahquabi? Are you excited to return to this beloved campground as it reopens? Let us know in the comments section! You can find out more on the official Iowa DNR press release, and check out ReserveAmerica to book your own stay. One of my favorite things to do in Indianola is this popular midnight float trip. And you're planning a camping trip with hiking this summer, make sure you have all the essentials.
