Nestled about two hours southwest of Chicago amidst several state parks, Kishauwau Cabins is one of the best getaway destinations in Illinois, especially for Chicagoans looking to enjoy some space outside the city. And, with special pet-friendly cabins, it’s the sort of accommodating place you can bring your four-legged friends.
Four of the 17 cabins on the property are designated as pet-friendly. Each has plenty of space to let your dog enjoy the outdoors, including big lawns. Each cabin has a fire pit, a grill, and outdoor seating.
The cabins are open year-round, with central air/heat and wood-burning stoves or gas fireplaces to keep the place cozy during the cold Midwest winter.
Inside, the cabins are rustic and comfortable, with enough room for your dog to feel at home. Each one has a fully stocked kitchen for big family meals.
Of course, you don’t need your dog with you every moment. Some of the cabins come with Whirlpool tubs for some moments of indoor rejuvenation.
Besides the cabin, there is so much outdoorsy exploring to do in this central part of Illinois. There are three state parks nearby, including the popular and unique Starved Rock State Park. Get lost in the twisty canyons and rock formations with your dog.
If you want an adventure away from the crowds, explore the less-visited Matthiessen State Park only 10 minutes away for similar trails through forests and rock formations. Five miles of hiking trails are yours for the trekking.
There’s plenty to do with your dog in this area of Illinois, and Kishauwau Cabins is a great place to make your home base for a getaway any time of year. You can learn more about the individual cabins on their website or Facebook page.
