Want to get away? Why stay at a hotel when there are so many fascinating places to spend the night? But of all the one-of-a-kind places to stay, the thought of spending the night in a former wooden shoe factory from the 1800s probably never crossed your mind.
In Teutopolis located in Effingham County, a historic wooden shoe factory from the 1880s has been turned into an Airbnb and you can stay here.
The wooden shoe factory was started by Gerhard Deymann. It was in operation from the 1880s through the Great Depression.
Mr. Deymann was a brick manufacturer as well. You can learn the history of the building during your stay and see details of brickwork integrated into the home's interior design.
Now that it's a charming Airbnb that can accommodate up to four guests, you will have a comfortable stay with all the amenities offered. The interior has such interesting architectural elements as exposed brick, beams, a fireplace, and vaulted ceilings as well as a spiral staircase that leads to the loft.
There is even a luggage lift that goes up to the second floor!
There is a kitchen with all the basics if you choose to do your own cooking. A continental breakfast is included with your stay after the first night.
The property also has a washer and dryer for your use in another building on the property.
A full bed occupies the loft while downstairs has a full-size couch, a Murphy bed, and a single rollaway bed available upon request.
The house is filled with antiques throughout and comes with bikes, a swing, a patio, a grill, and a pedal bar that can seat up to eight people for you and your guests to use.
A night spent at this historic wooden shoe factory will be one you will never forget!
