The aptly named town of Spirit Lake is home to quite a few tales regarding the paranormal, some of which include the state's oldest continuously operated saloon and hotel. The White Horse Saloon, Grill, and Hotel has been around for well over a century, so we think it's safe to say it's home to plenty of ghost stories. There's only one way to be sure whether there's any truth to these creepy legends. Spend the night in this haunted hotel and see for yourself!
Opened in 1907, the White Horse Saloon, Grill, and Hotel is one of Idaho's oldest businesses. This also means it has quite the history, with some going even as far as to say that it's haunted!
Step through the saloon's front doors and you are immediately greeted with the sight of original wood floors and a bar that looks straight out of the Wild West. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, there's no denying that the White Horse oozes of local history.
The White Horse is well over a century old, but it's definitely still going strong. Visitors regularly stop by for a hot cooked meal, refreshing libation, and some good company. You may experience something paranormal, if you're lucky.
It's widely believed that the White Horse is haunted. In fact, there's one spirit that locals have dubbed "Big Girl" that seems to pop up on the regular. Most encounters with Big Girl occur in the hotel's Room #2, but she's been felt all over the historic building.
There have been countless other episodes where people have reported things like slamming doors, unexplained footsteps, and objects moving randomly. Some have even reported full-body apparitions and disembodied voices—creepy!
The good news is that there's been no indication that the spirits are sinister in nature at all. For all we know, they could be returning to the White Horse Saloon for another night of uproarious, drunkenly fun.
If you've got a fascination with the paranormal, then a stop at the historic White Horse in Spirit Lake should definitely be in your future. Whether you see a ghost or not, its historic charm is bound to win you over.
