Some of the best summer nights are spent camping. This is one of my favorite activities when I want to disconnect, escape my worries, and relax my mind and body. While there are some incredible campgrounds in Idaho, one of the best is the Phi Kappa Campground in the Pioneer Mountains. This remote campground near Mackay is surrounded by trees, offers gorgeous mountain views, and is quite remote — it’s the type of place where you’ll never forget your stay.
Don’t be surprised when Phi Kappa Campground becomes your new favorite camping spot in Idaho. This destination is located along the Big Lost River in the Pioneer Mountains.
This campground is tucked up high — it’s located at 7,450 feet. The closest towns are Mackay and Sun Valley but there is a bit of a drive to reach these towns.
This is a pretty basic Idaho campground. There are 21 campsites and it is best for tent camping. Water is available during the summer and there are two vault toilets in the campground.
However, because of the location of this campground, it’s much less busy than others in the state. You cannot place reservations and campsites are only $10 a night.
After you arrive and set up camp, you’ll quickly see why Phi Kappa Campground is one of the best camping spots in Idaho. The wooded setting provides shade and beauty. This destination is also rich in wildlife so don’t be surprised if you see creatures of all sizes wandering into your camp.
If you want to go and explore the area as well, you can head to places like Kane Lake, Ketchum, and Challis.
But if you are like me, sometimes you just need some peace and quiet in nature. You need some place where you can immerse yourself in nature therapy and Phi Kappa Campground can easily provide that.
