Getting away from it all for a few days is a definite must. Northern Californians work incredibly hard. Not to mention, many of us spend hours in traffic going to and from our job. So, if you're going to pack a bag and get out of Dodge for a few days, shouldn't it be somewhere unforgettable?
Here are some of our favorite getaways - for lots of reasons.
1. Philo Apple Farm
Mendocino County may just have the most rustic getaway possible. Tucked in the heart of an apple orchard are five cottages where you get to enjoy a B&B experience. Check out their options for a light communal breakfast - we hear it may include homemade preserves and baked goods made from the farm. Does it get any cuter than this?
2. East Brother Light Station
Located in San Pablo bay, this 142-year-old lighthouse is just a 10 minute ferry ride to luxury. Now a B&B, champagne and chic snacks await your arrival. Enjoy a five course gourmet breakfast, then a tour of the island and lighthouse to finish your amazing stay.
3. Bear Basin Fire Lookout and Pierson Cabin
Ever stayed on an island in the sky? Here's your chance. Walk in to this site and stay in a 1930s cabin, once used as a fire lookout. There's something romantic about the quiet solitude of waking up to a 360 degree view. But don't expect indoor plumbing with this stay - you'll just have to hold it until morning.
4. Metro Hotel and Cafe
Petaluma is where you can find this funky circus of Paris. Why go to France when you can stay right here and enjoy their eclectic cafe? Save the airfare because according to Sunset Magazine, this is one of the top 20 unique stays in Western America.
5. The Groveland Hotel
Yosemite may just be the bully on the block when it comes to natural beauty, but even this national park desires a lovely hotel with floral themed rooms on occasion. Tempt your hubby to come along by reminding him there's a golf course less than two miles away.
6. The National Hotel
This hotel actually remembers the gold rush of our fine state. Built in 1862, you can stay in rooms that housed the gold-seeking 49ers we read so much about in our high school history classes.
7. The Delta King
Riverboats used to be the way to go. Today, we love the fact that this one is parked right by Old Town Sacramento for a day of shopping. Step on board and enjoy fine dining and views for miles.
