Tannery Gulch Campground is located in Shasta Trinity National Forest, which is the largest national forest in California.
Tannery Gulch Campground has four loops of campsites shaded by conifer and deciduous trees.
Three of the four loops offer scenic views of Trinity Lake. The campground is located in the town of Trinity Center.
The lake has been low in past years, but due to the rain storms of 2024, the lake is now full and beautiful.
This campground has a private boat ramp for camper’s use, as well as an amphitheater where campers can watch movies.
Tannery Gulch Campground is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Sacramento and over a four-hour drive from San Francisco.
If long drives are not your thing, there are daily nonstop flights from SFO to the Redding airport, where you can rent a car to reach the Tannery Gulch Campground in just a one hour drive.
Some things to know before venturing to this remote campground: Past guests say the bathrooms are very clean, with flushing toilets and sinks.
But there are no showers, so you’ll need to bring a portable shower, or just plan to take frequent dips in the lake.
Bring your furry friends! Dogs are welcome at this campground but need to be kept on-leash.
Cell service is spotty and sometimes non-existent, so screenshot or print anything you might need before your visit.
