Have you ever wanted to go off and live in the wilderness? It's a pretty tempting idea. Fortunately for us, Northern California is full of interesting lodging options that make it possible to live out this fantasy...even if it's just for a weekend. Yosemite National Park is by far one of the most popular natural attractions in our state. However, finding lodging within this beautiful park can be a challenge. Campsite or lodge? Or maybe something in between? The next time you're planning a trip to this stunning state park, consider spending a few nights at the Half Dome Village. This charming little tent village is located right in the thick of the wilderness and it's absolutely enchanting.
If you're looking for an immersive lodging experience in Yosemite National Park, you'll definitely want to take a look at Half Dome Village. This quaint tent village is exactly that; a village. Located in the middle of this gorgeous park, it's a getaway destination that you can't pass up.
The village is composed of both heated and unheated canvas tents, along with some cabins that are available to rent as well. It's the perfect compromise in between staying at one of the park's many campsites or luxurious lodges.
In fact, Half Dome Village has been welcoming travelers and outdoor enthusiasts since 1899. This awesome place has grown substantially over the last century from the dozen-or-so tents it started out as!
The tent "cabins" provide a lot more comfort than sleeping in a regular tent does. It's kind of like roughing it, but without the back pain that comes with sleeping on the ground.
Each of their cabins feature wooden floors, a wooden door, a bed, chairs, and a safe for locking up valuables. You'll also have access to fresh towels when needed, a nice luxury you're sure to take advantage of!
The campground has everything you could ever need. Located right in Yosemite Valley, you'll find plenty of places to eat including a buffet, pizza restaurant, and grocery store located nearby.
The campground also contains a heated swimming pool which is free to use for village guests. The pool is open every day from May through September. You really couldn't ask for a more scenic location for a swimming pool.
Of course, there's plenty to explore outside of the village which makes it a great base camp for any adventure you have in mind. Located just east of the village is Mirror Lake, a popular hiking and wading destination within the valley.
And located within eyesight of the village is the utterly stunning Half Dome. Whether you're planning to hike up it or simply just stare at it, there's no denying why this is one of California's most famous landmarks.
This tent village really looks like heaven on earth. We wish they accepted permanent residents! If you'd like to find out more about camping at the village, you can visit their website here.
