Why would you stay in a boring hotel when there are so many unique places with so much history in Arizona? Do yourself a favor or surprise someone special with a trip to one of these wonderfully weird hotels.
1. The Shady Dell
The Shady Dell in Bisbee has all kinds of vintage trailers from the '40s and '50s that allow guests to travel back in time to those family road trips.
2. Wigwam Village Motel
The Wigwam Village Motel in Holbrook, AZ, is part of a chain of motels built in the '30s and '40s. They're made to resemble teepees, but the designer preferred the word wigwam. Only three are still in operation in the US.
3. Copper Queen
This Victorian hotel was built in Bisbee in at the turn of the 20th century. It's one of Arizona's oldest running hotels and rumored to be haunted.
4. Grand Canyon Caverns Suite
If you've ever wanted to sleep 200 feet below ground, this is the perfect suite for you, but at $800 a night, it's really a once in a lifetime experience.
5. Mollohan Castle
This quirky home in Tucson was built in the '80s to look like a castle, complete with all kinds of strange features. It's available on Airbnb here.
6. Jerome Grand Hotel
This huge hotel began as the United Verde Hospital in 1927 and was converted into a hotel in 1994. The hotel is very proud of its ghostly reputation, and its restaurant is even named The Asylum.
7. Hotel Congress
Hotel Congress in Tucson was built in 1919. It's famous for being the site where bank robber John Dillinger was captured in 1934.
8. Schoolhouse Inn Bed & Breakfast
Also in Bisbee, the Schoolhouse Inn began as the Garfield School in 1918. Guests can choose from school-themed rooms like The Principal's Office Suite and The Art Room.
