There are more places to pitch a tent in Arizona than we could ever even attempt to count, but not all of them boast picture-perfect, 360-degree views. Nestled up against the iconic red rock landscape of Sedona, Pine Flat Campground certainly does - and it's arguably one of the most beautiful spots to camp in the entire state.
Situated directly alongside the briskly babbling waters of Oak Creek Canyon, Pine Flat Campground near Sedona is a picture-perfect place to pitch your tent for the night.
Just 12 miles outside the city, the campground is set against a background of towering red rock walls and lush ponderosa pine trees, making it look like a scene straight out of a fairytale.
Of the 56 available campsites, 18 can be reserved in advance.
The others are on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you don't plan on booking early, try to arrive at check-in time (1 p.m.) to ensure you get a spot.
The campsites are extremely spacious, so you'll be able to fully enjoy your time in nature without worrying about noisy neighbors.
Both tents and RVs are allowed, and the nightly rate is the same for both: $26.
Amenities include picnic tables, charcoal grills, drinking water, and vault toilets.
Each morning, as you boil water for your coffee over the hot coals, you'll have the pleasure of enjoying the sweeping canyon vistas that define Sedona. Can you imagine anything better?
Don't forget your fishing pole—the stream is stocked with trout, so you can almost guarantee you'll leave with some impressive catches.
There are also hiking trails and swimming areas accessible from the campground.
Perhaps the best thing about Pine Flat Campground is its proximity to the world-famous Slide Rock State Park.
A short drive is all that stands between you and the 80-foot-long natural waterslide, and you'll avoid some of the crowds by not spending the night in the park itself.
