Alaskan roadhouses are an amazing part of our state history, and you can find them dotted all over our landscape. Many of them are just the ruins of the hundreds that used to exist, but there are a couple that have been lovingly restored and offer great food and hospitality. One beautiful historic Alaskan roadhouse sits right on the edge of the Alaskan wilderness!
The Tonsina River Lodge is located in the beautiful Copper River Valley, right on the edge of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
It's in a perfect location next to the Tonsina River and Bernard Creek. These two bodies of water offer some excellent fishing. You can fish for Salmon, Grayling, and Dolly Varden.
The rooms are very spacious and have been recently renovated.
Expect a modern rustic feel to the bedrooms. Guests rave about the cleanliness of the rooms and the elegant, comfortable style.
Each guest room is tastefully appointed with Alaskan rustic features, including the furniture.
There's also a luxurious spa and sauna on site, where you can relax after a long, wonderful day hiking or fishing. The climate in summer is warm and dry, so most people spend large periods of time outside enjoying the midnight sun!
There's a world-renowned restaurant on the bottom floor of the lodge.
They offer a variety of culinary delights and feature great local items like Alaskan beer from local microbreweries. They also have a large Russian menu!
The Russian menu is extensive and features delicious dishes that travelers rave about.
If enjoying Russian food isn't your style, they also have an American based menu with some dishes that may be more familiar. We highly recommend trying something a little different, as the Russian cuisine is incredibly flavorful.
