Wyoming is a state made up of a really diverse group of people and, while we may all be different, there are a lot of things we share that bring us together. Below are 10 of the signs that you definitely belong here.
1. You believe in renewable energy.
While Wyoming is one of the nation’s leading producers of coal, we also recognize the value in producing renewable alternatives to energy. We know that renewable energy isn’t as practical as coal, but at the same time we’re not afraid to invest in our state’s environmental future.
2. You feel like you don’t fit in anywhere.
In my personal experience, the bigger towns in Wyoming are really inclusive to a variety of different people. We have LGBT chapters, churches, rock shows, and dedicated cowboy bars all within a stone's throw of each other and, for the most part, we all manage to get along. We value our independence and, for the most part, we try to respect the independence of other people. With that being said, your experience may vary in the smaller towns.
3. You love wide open spaces.
Some people just don’t like feeling hemmed in. If that’s the case with you, odds are you’re probably going to enjoy living in one of the most sparsely populated and rural states in the country.
4. You’re outdoorsy.
Wyoming doesn’t have a ton in the way of nightlife, but we make up for it by having a huge variety of camping grounds, isolated hiking paths, great fishing spots, and huge swaths of land for hunting.
5. You like to know your neighbors.
There are few things as comforting as knowing the people around you. Even if you don’t like them, at least you know who to watch out for. So, if you’re not the type who prefers isolating themselves, you’d probably do well in one of our small towns.
6. You value your privacy.
On the other hand, if you just want to get away from it all, you have that option as well. There’s tons of cheap land here, so you can get as far away from civilization as you want to.
7. You aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty.
Wyomingites have a can-do attitude and a rugged spirit, so we usually like to take household repairs into our own hands. If you’re dedicated to living a DIY life, you’ll find yourself in good company here.
8. You think fancy restaurants are a waste of money.
Not to knock anyone’s preferences, but there are people who really don’t like fine dining. Having to wear nice clothes and shell out a lot of money for a meal isn’t something most of us like doing around here. If you prefer the greasy hole-in-the-wall diner to the award-winning restaurant, you’re going to have a nice time here.
9. You have a passionate hatred of traffic.
The worst part about living in a big city is trying to get around during peak traffic times. Thankfully, getting from A to B in Wyoming is never a hassle (well, with the exception of Cheyenne during Frontier Days).
10. You like to live cheaply.
Wyoming is one of the most affordable states in the country and, while we don’t have much in the way of boutique stores or nightlife, it’s not hard to make a living here.
