We're a little quirky in the Mountain State, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Here are some of our legends, food traditions, and strange habits. In West Virginia we...
1. Drive 70 on the highway.
The highways aren't usually very crowded, so we can enjoy our generous speed limit.
2, Don't slow down much for snow.
Just about everyone has a 4 wheel drive, but sometimes we put a little too much faith in them.
3. Aren't phased by narrow country roads.
It seems scary at first to have so little space to drive, but we quickly get used to it.
4. Then sing about them.
It's hard not to love John Denver's description of West Virginia.
5. Put coleslaw on hot dogs.
Even some West Virginians to the north find this a little weird.
6. Jump off a bridge.
Or at least, we'll watch the jumpers at the annual Bridge Day Festival.
7. Celebrate our monsters.
We love the Mothman, and give him his own statue and festival.
8. Go ghost hunting.
We have some creepy places that are just perfect to look for ghosts, like the abandoned Lake Shawnee Amusement Park.
9. Enjoy wild foods.
It's almost springtime, and we'll soon see plenty of ramp dinners!
10. Line up for pepperoni rolls.
The perfect pepperoni roll is worth the wait.
11. Make fun of ourselves.
We don't mind taking a light-hearted poke at the stereotypes at the annual Road Kill Cookoff.
We're a little bit strange, but we love it that way. Here are 10 undeniable reasons why West Virginia will always be home.
