We all know West Virginians are very generous people. In fact, we gave on average 2.83 percent of our incomes to charity in 2012. That's based on information from Philanthropy.com, which used information from the Internal Revenue Service, the census and other sources.
But how did each county in West Virginia do? Here are the top 10 most generous counties in West Virginia:
10. Grant, where residents gave on average 3.32 percent of their incomes and a total of $2.43 million.
9. Kanawha, where residents gave on average 3.34 percent of their incomes, and a total of $80.5 million.
8. Nicholas, which gave an average of 3.35 percent of their incomes and a total of about $5 million.
7. Cabell, which gave an average of 3.38 percent of their incomes and a total of $34.9 million.
6. Pendleton, where residents gave an average of 3.41 percent of their incomes and a total of $1.38 million.
5. Summers, where residents gave an average of 3.42 percent of their incomes and a total of $1.63 million.
4. Monroe, which gave an average of 3.46 percent of their incomes and a total of about $2 million.
3. Mercer County, where residents gave an average of 3.47 percent of their incomes and their contributions totaled about $13.4 million.
2. Greenbrier, where residents gave an average of 3.49 percent of their incomes and a total of about $9.2 million.
1. And the number one most generous county in the state was Mingo, where residents gave an average of 3.90 percent of their incomes and a total of about $4.9 million.
