The older our state gets, the more beautifully some of our homes age. That being said, it might surprise you how different some of the houses in Washington looked nearly a century ago. The pictures of these old homes were spotted in Yale's vintage library collection, and they'll definitely give you a glimpse into the past.
1. Here's a house in Longview in Cowlitz County in the mid-30s.
It's most likely still there.
2. This little house in Newport was abandoned in 1936.
If those walls could talk...
3. Here's another adorable house in Cowlitz County.
This photo was taken in 1936.
4. This photo, taken in 1939, shows a trailer home in Toppenish.
This little girl is probably a great grandmother now.
5. This house belonged to a permanent farm worker at the FSA arm family migratory labor camp in Yakima in the late 1930s.
Agriculture has always been a big part of Yakima's economy.
6. Here's another house from the same camp in Yakima.
Looks pretty cozy.
7. The photo of this charming street of homes in Waitsburg (just outside Walla Walla) may be from almost a century ago, but it doesn't look much different there today.
That's the beauty of Washington's historic towns -- some of them remain frozen in time.
It's so fun to get a glimpse of our local history. Here's what Washington was up to during World War II.
