The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Washington is a fantastic, little-known museum in a small fishing town on the Long Beach Peninsula. The museum tells the history of the area via dynamic permanent and special exhibits. The museum shares culture, history, and traditions. It displays many artifacts of the Native American peoples that lived in this area.
Walk down history lane as you peek into the windows of recreated storefronts, homes, and community spaces like a school classroom.
It's super fun to get a sense of what life was like for the people living in the Ilwaco area over 100 years ago.
My kids loved the huge row boat that was used by early Coast Guard members.
There is also an impressive dugout canoe on display as well.
When you go upstairs, you'll see an enchanting display of period dollhouses and a huge model railroad.
My kids and I loved looking at these miniature displays.
There is also a full-size train car from the Ilwaco Railroad.
You'll also find an excellent gift store where you can purchase mementos of your visit while supporting this fabulous local history museum.
