Being born and raised in the Old Dominion is a topic of great pride for us Virginians. Yet truth be told, there are certain trends and behaviors that will give away this fact before you've even had the chance to announce it yourself. Be it an odd mannerism or expression, you really can't hide those Virginia roots. Below is a list of legitimate signs that you were raised in Virginia.
1. You've got a closet stocked for all seasons at any given time.
Just because it's winter in Virginia doesn't mean you'll want to put away all those summer clothes -- and vice versa. Weather around here can be unpredictable at best, but with four gorgeous seasons, we really can't complain.
2. Your license plate is a little window into your personality.
It's true, Virginians have the highest number of vanity plates per capita. So if you've got personalized plates, there's a high chance that you hail from Virginia.
3. You know that all iced tea around here is sweet.
If you order iced tea, be sure to specify for "unsweetened" if you prefer it so. Otherwise, all tea is served sweet!
4. You say "bless your heart" with a less-than-kind undertone.
This expression is a true Southernism that usually implies the receiver of a "bless your heart" has done something foolish.
5. You're used to snow days that look like this...
6...AND this.
Snow days in Virginia are as unpredictable as the weather itself. But who can complain about an extra day off?
7. You've been asked the difference between Virginia and West Virginia.
This would be a good time to use the aforementioned "bless your heart."
8. You feel right at home here.
As a kid, you probably visited Thomas Jefferson's iconic Monticello on a least a few field trips. And as an adult, you've probably returned to appreciate the architecture and astounding design.
9. Crab-picking parties are the highlight of your calendar.
There's just nothing that compares to the fresh and delicious crabs from Virginia's Eastern Shore.
10. You've been ruined for life by Virginia's breathtaking sunsets.
Living in Virginia makes it exceptionally difficult to enjoy a sunset anywhere else quite as much.
