Enjoy reading about a few of the life lessons everyone learns growing up in Vermont, and feel free to add yours in the comments below.
1. Never, ever lick anything metal when it's freezing cold outside.
You'll never make that mistake twice!
2. Never leave wet mittens in your coat pocket.
Wet mittens = cold hands. Obviously.
3. When you don't have an ice scraper in your car....
Don't use an important credit card to scrape the ice. Look for an expired card.
4. There are adventures everywhere.
It's guaranteed that no longer how long you’ve been living in Vermont, it still has more to offer you.
5. Be prepared for anything.
Vermont weather can be unpredictable, so better safe than sorry!
6. Only eat authentic Maple Syrup.
Don't touch the fake stuff. Go real or go without.
7. Mac & Cheese isn't just for kids.
There's nothing quite like Mac & Cheese made with Vermont's world famous cheeses.
8. As a kid, you can't get away with anything.
Your parents will know about it immediately. Bad news travels fast!
9. Never lend tools, mowers, snow shovels, pressure washers, etc. to friends...
Possession is 9/10th of the law in Vermont.
10. Kitty litter is a great substitute for salt and sand for traction.
Even used litter will do in an emergency.
11. Train your dog to use ONLY one section of the yard to do his business in the winter.
Or else you will have to wait a LONG time before the kids can play in the yard when the snow melts.
12. Cows, deer, moose, bears and horses always have the right of way.
Wrong way!
13. A pocket full of tissues is a must.
This can not be stressed enough during the winter.
14. Raccoons and other wild animals will always get into the trash if you leave it outside.
No matter how secure you think it is, they find a way.
15. You have to leave at some point...
To realize you want to end up here forever.
