Sometimes we don't realize how much we appreciate things until they are taken away.  This notion is also true in reverse, and Vermont newbies know that better than anyone.

Those who have read about Vermont, seen some pictures, or maybe taken a vacation here may think they know what life is like in the 802, but life here must be experienced to be understood.  There are many things about living in Vermont that, once you experience them first hand, you realize you couldn't live without.  While some of these things may be obvious to those who were born and raised here, but to others, they are surprised by the smallest of details.  And sometimes they are shocked by a few of the little things that have become so important.  Here are some aspects of Vermont that could make you want to move, and once you're here, things you'd never want to live without!

Many towns in Vermont have wonderfully groomed and maintained bike paths. Safety makes a family bike ride much more enjoyable.

8. We're pet friendly.

Our four legged friends are family and we love to take them places with us. Luckily, many places in Vermont are fur friendly.

9. Vermont has a ton of fairs (not to be confused with festivals).

The Champlain Valley Fair is not only a treat, but a right of passage.

10. You don't have to look at the free skate schedule.

Because the local pond is frozen and ready to go.

11. There is always a park nearby.

Whether you picnic in the town center or visit one of the impeccable state parks, there is always a place to enjoy the grass under your feet.

12. Our snow is clean enough to play in.

13. Lake Champlain is always accessible.

Since Lake Champlain runs practically the length of Vermont, it's never really hard to get to. It has some of the best sailing, kayaking and fishing around. And just check out these mountain views!

14. Our food can't get more fresh or juicy.

If you've eaten a strawberry right off the vine, you know what I'm talking about.

15. Vermont is the healthiest state in the nation.

For the fourth consecutive year, Vermont has been named the nation’s healthiest state by the United Health Foundation.

The state has steadily risen in the last 20-plus years of the group’s America’s Health Rankings, moving from 20th in 1990 to the top spot today.

16. There is always a festival to enjoy.

From Hot Air Balloons to Ice Sculptures to the Annual Mac and Cheese Festival, Vermont is full of fun and exciting things to do.

17. You're never too young or old to learn how to ski.

When you can have 5?! OK, maybe mud season isn't a draw to Vermont, but it certainly keeps things interesting!
