Vermont is very unique and peculiar, and its laws reflect just that. While some relate to animals and the environment, others will have you wracking your brain as to how (and more importantly, why) anyone came up with these weird laws in Vermont in the first place.
1. It's illegal to undress in public in Vermont, but if you leave your house naked, it's totally fine.
2. It is against the law to whistle underwater.
We'd be rather impressed if you could do it anyway.
3. At one point in time, it was legal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole in Vermont.
Those wily giraffes must have been making long-distance phone calls without paying for them.
4. It's unlawful to deny the existence of God.
5. Billboards have been outlawed in Vermont since 1968.
This may seem like a strange law, but this one actually makes sense. We like to keep our landscapes free of all that advertising pollution--and we're ok with that!
6. It's against the law to defame a court.
If you're caught calling it Kangaroo, you could face a $200 fine.
7. You're not allowed to paint a landscape during war time.
Better off choosing a still-life or portrait during times of fighting so you don't want to end up in jail.
8. It's also illegal to paint a horse--even when it's not war time.
We'll let you interpret what they mean by "painting a horse."
9. In the city of Barre, all residents are required to bathe every Saturday night.
We hope they choose to bathe on other nights of the week too.
10. Vermont has banned the prohibition of clotheslines.
Just to deter all of those crazy people who are rallying to make hang-drying your clothes illegal, you know.
11. Putting doves inside the freezer is against the law.
You're allowed to hunt a wide variety of animals in Vermont, but if you hunt doves, eat them fast!
12. And lastly, if you're a woman and you want to get false teeth, you're going to have to ask your husband for a written letter of permission.
There are strange laws in Vermont, and then there are dumb laws in Vermont. We'll let you decide which category this one falls into.
